Access, Billing, and Contributor Rewards
FailMemory is currently in the Seeding stage. The goal of this stage is to build useful corpus coverage without putting payment friction in front of new contributors.
Current access
| Action | Current access |
|---|---|
| Create an account and API key | Free; no card or email verification |
POST /v1/report |
Free and unlimited with authentication |
GET /v1/lookup |
Free and unlimited with authentication |
GET /v1/patterns/:hash |
Free and unlimited with authentication |
| Public dashboard | Free |
GET /v1/patterns bulk export |
Not available through public signup yet |
No prepaid balance or credit deposit is required for the MCP lookup and report flow during Seeding. If an authenticated Seeding-stage lookup returns a payment error, treat that as a product bug and report it.
Get access
Create an account at failmemory.dev/signup. The service returns one API key and a ready-to-paste MCP configuration. The raw key is shown once and is not stored by FailMemory.
Use the key as FAIL_MEMORY_API_KEY. The MCP package uses
https://failmemory.dev by default; custom deployments can override that base
URL with FAIL_MEMORY_API_URL.
Paid access is not live
FailMemory does not currently expose Stripe Checkout or a public paid upgrade path. Earlier documentation advertised per-call pricing and a monthly bulk export subscription; those offers are not active during Seeding and should not have appeared as purchasable products.
The bulk-export endpoint exists, but public signup accounts do not receive a
subscription entitlement. It returns 403 unless an active entitlement has
been attached to the account. Do not expect to purchase that entitlement yet.
Any future stage transition or paid-access launch will be announced before it takes effect. Existing Seeding access does not silently become billable.
Credit endpoints
The HTTP API still contains credit-ledger endpoints built for a later metered stage:
POST /v1/credits/depositGET /v1/credits/balance
They are not needed for current MCP use, and no public production payment flow is configured around them. Do not send funds based on these endpoints.
Contributor rewards
The service also contains a dormant contributor-credit ledger for a future metered stage. The current MCP report tool contributes authenticated evidence but does not participate in that reward mechanism.
During Seeding, lookups are already free. Contributor credits therefore have no practical effect on the core MCP flow today.
Provenance matters more than payment
Every lookup hit includes a provenance label:
organic— at least three independent signers corroborated the failure.seeded— a first-party probe observed the failure without independent corroboration yet.
Use that label when deciding whether to skip an external call. A seeded hit is a warning; an organic hit is the stronger shared-corpus signal.
